Things to Do in Lefkada: My Top 3 Attractions

Planning the perfect Greek vacation? I highly recommend visiting Lefkada! Unlike other islands, you can get there by either ferry or car. And once you arrive, there are plenty of things to do in Lefkada.

You can relax on the beaches or take it up a notch – literally! Soar above the island and dive into the caves to enjoy this Greek island to the max.

American Living in Germany: Know Before You Go

The closest airport to Lefkada is Aktion International Airport. But depending on your itinerary, you can also take a ferry from Kefalonia to Lefkada!

Have you read my guide to Kefalonia yet? Don’t sleep on it!

Regardless of how you get to the island, you will definitely want to rent a car, scooter, or four-wheeler while you’re there. You’ll be able to see so much more, including some of the best Lefkada beaches. And don’t expect to find any taxis or Ubers!

And be sure to bring your tourist passport! If you reside in Germany under the Status of Forces Agreement, your SOFA passport is not for traveling. It functions as a visa or residency permit, rather than a travel document.

Things to Do in Lefkada

Of all the things to do in Lefkada, visiting beaches is definitely number one! But there are a couple different ways you can enjoy these gems.

Relax on Porto Katsiki beach in Lefkada!

1. Porto Katsiki Beach

Porto Katsiki is one of the most popular Lefkada beaches with its clear blue water framed under the cliffs. Accessible by boat or car, this beach is free for anyone to enjoy. But that does also mean that it gets crowded.

Be sure to bring everything you need because there are no shops on the beach. And don’t forget your umbrella and a hat – there’s not much shade.

Take a short swim around the cliffs to see the hidden caves around Porto Katsiki – definitely a highlight!

Before you go paragliding, have a hearty breakfast in Lefkada!

2. Paragliding over Lefkada

If you want to see the entire island, I recommend paragliding with Fly Lefkada. Yes, I was a little scared too, but once we got in the air, I felt like I was on top of the world!

The view of Lefkada’s beaches from above is absolutely incredible. The instructors are very friendly and very skilled at paragliding. I felt safe and extremely comfortable jumping off a cliff with this company.

Paragliding over Lefkada has to be on your to do list

They also provide a GoPro camera for you to film your ride, and then they give you the footage right after you land. For 15 glorious minutes, you can experience the most unique and peaceful view of the island from above.

Pro tip: they only offer tandem flights from June through September.

Rachi restaurant breakfast views on the island of Lefkada Greece

You will take off from Rachi Restaurant, where you should definitely eat breakfast and enjoy the view. Indulge yourself in a sweet or savory breakfast of pancakes, pastries, sandwiches, and eggs!

Sunset views on Kathisma Beach in Lefkada Greece

3. Kathisma Beach

If you go paragliding with Fly Lefkada, you will likely land on Kathisma Beach. (Fly Lefkada will bring your belongings.) It’s much more accessible than Porto Katsiki, but it can also get really crowded.

Pro tip: If you see the donut man on the beach, try all the flavors!

Spend the entire day at Kathisma, have lunch at one of the local restaurants, and then watch the sun set on the beach. It really doesn’t get any better than that!

Frequently Asked Questions about What to Do in Lefkada

This Greek island has plenty of activities! If you don’t see an answer to your question, let me know in the comments.

Where are the best Lefkada beaches?

Porto Katsiki is incredible. There’s plenty of space, the water is calm, and there are caves to explore! But it can get crowded and it’s only accessible by stairs. Bilvi is the only dining option located at the very top of the cliff (and has a swimming pool?), so if you want to eat, bring your food/drink, find the donut man, or walk up the treacherous stairs for a sit down experience.

Kathisma beach is also a lovely experience. It’s wide open and has plenty of restaurants. And paragliding down to the beach is amazing!

If you want a quieter, more private experience, check out Egremni Beach, Vasiliki Beach, Milos Beach, and Gialos Beach.

What are the best restaurants in Lefkada?

You can’t go to Lekada and not have breakfast at Rachi – it’s a must! Eat Oreo pancakes, drink freshly squeezed OJ, and watch paragliders jump off into the sun from the top of a hill.

As I’ve said before, the food in Greece is incredible, so you really can’t go wrong! If you visit Kathisma Beach, all the nearby restaurants have a great vibe. And nothing beats eating lunch with a view of Greek island beaches. We ate at Akrogiali Restaurant, but I would also recommend Monato and Copla Beach Bar.

Where are the best hotels in Lefkada, Greece?

I would recommend an AirBnB if you’re staying with a group of people, but you should also check out Milos Bay Villas for a great experience. The villas are set on a hillside looking over Milos Beach, and it’s the most majestic spot to capture the beauty of this Greek island.

Whether you’re looking for a luxurious experience, easy beach access, or a budget hotel, Lekfada has plenty of hotels to choose from!
